The Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics involve different sites within a complex macro-regional system: springing from Milan’s metropolitan core and stretching across the mountain areas of Lombardy, Veneto, and Trentino-Alto Adige. This seminar draws on two recent books that focus, in particular, on the Milanese and Valtellina contexts: Milan Cultural Mega-events and Beyond the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, recently published by researchers from Politecnico di Milano’s Department of Architecture and Urban Studies. Following a keynote speech by Sven Daniel Wolfe (ETH Zurich) addressing mega-event planning and sustainability, a panel of local administrators, experts, and scholars will discuss the current and future steps toward the 2026 Winter Olympics event and their urban and regional legacy.
