As the largest Latin American metropolis, São Paulo has been facing the typical problems of a Global South city: environmental burden, uneven access to infrastructure and services, precarious housing conditions, etc. The responses of the Urban Development Department have been both at the planning and the project scales. In order to understand the results of the implementation of these policies, two research projects were proposed at the School of Architecture and Urbanism, Univeristy of São Paulo.
Limits and possibilities of implementing urban planning tools in São Paulo aims to understand the implementation of the award winning 2014 São Paulo Master Plan and its planning tools specifically the ones related to land value capture to promote heritage preservation, social housing and public transport provision.
Evaluation of Large-scale urban development projects aims to understand the spatial results and socio-economic impacts related to large scale projects implementation in the city, but it also has a comparative approach with other Brazilian cities, specifically about sports mega-events planning.
