Small artifacts for rural regeneration of alpine territories at high altitude
A series of open lectures are organized against the backdrop of the workshop “Upwards! Small artifacts for rural regeneration of alpine territories at high altitude”. The main topics deal with the re-conquest of those high lands, once a place of production and today often abandoned, waiting for rediscovery and reinvention. Over the past years, the Alps witness virtuous returns and highlands’ strong resilience symptoms. Natural resources are rediscovered, and even the relicts can be turned into architectural devices capable of rehabilitating pastures and forests. The goal is to understand the peculiarities of designing in isolated and extreme contexts: the role of architectural design assumes a core role as the necessary discipline able to imagine and propose the feasible and sustainable reactivation of rural territories and high lands.
Two final lectures focus on mentioned topics from different cultural and geographical perspectives.
On July 16th PhD. Arch. Francesco Marras and PhD Arch. Roberto Sanna (UniCa, DICAAR) will explore how research, practice and education combine to propose a multiscalar approach within the rural territory of Sardinia.
On July 23rd, documentarists Hanna Acanfora Torrefranca and Claudia Mann will deepens the controversial relationships between transhumant and touristic activities in South Tirol region.
