Soilscapes. Landscape at the Intersection of Art and Science

The speakers will present and discuss two recent publications which they co-curated in the framework of academic researches at Sapienza Università di Roma and Free University of Bozen-Bolzano respectively: “The Landscape as Union between Art and Science. The Legacy of Alexander von Humboldt and Ernst Haeckel” (Quodlibet, 2023) and “Soils Matter. Intersezioni tra arte e scienza” (bruno, 2024). Both devoted at investigating the encroaching between art and science in shaping literal and material narratives of the environment – with a special focus on soil – the two books span from the very roots of a systemic notion of nature to contemporary ecology-driven landscape and artistic practices.

This event will be followed on 09 December 2024 by the connected seminar “Waterscapes. Tales of rivers and other water landscapes”, with Giulia Cazzaniga (Politecnico di Milano), Daniele Lupo (Lungomare, Bozen-Bolzano) and Mathieu Mercuriali (ENSAPVS, Paris).
