Urban practitioners and urban practice, indicate a trans-disciplinary culture, that mixes art, architecture, planning, sociology, etc., performing temporary transformations of spaces to interrogate the public about future possibilities. Using a critical approach, a new generation of practitioners fabricates architectures and temporary devices to engage citizens in a conversation: they build arenas for discussion and dialogue, masquerade as playful spaces, and light, quick and cheap urban improvements. Their focus has moved from aesthetics and inner disciplinary discourses, to address social, economic and environmental policies.
How does the growing transidsciplinary culture influence the relation between professional knowledge, provided through education, and its application in everyday life? How is the role of practitioners changing and, thus, how is the relation between practitioners, clients and the public/user evolving in critical urban practice?
