In this seminar Eva Kassens-Noor will discuss a variety of topics connecting mega-event and the city including transportation, urban planning, legacies and politics. She will draw on studies regarding seven Olympic Games (Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016) and will compare and contrast the winning Tokyo bid for the 2020 Olympics to the Boston 2024 bidding process. She will then analyze the current planning processes surrounding the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics with multi-faceted plans and the rising of potential controversial legacies from those upcoming Games. Based on this wide-ranging evidence she will outline a critical view regarding mega-event planning and its urban legacies.
