Critical perspectives and open challenges
Underused and abandoned buildings in cities are frequently considered as problematic, either
because they produce negative externalities, or as a signal of more complex issues. This seminar aims to discuss some critical aspects related to this phenomenon, with a specific attention to property titles and institutional frameworks for policy implementations.
The first part of the seminar is devoted to unused and underused publicly owned buildings that have started to be considered as a capital reusable for social and inclusive projects.
In the second part of the seminar, the discussion will focus on abandoned private buildings, the problems they raise in the city and the new perspectives for their management.
