Architecture Crossroads is the Serie of Scientific Seminars that explore the fruitful contaminations between architecture and distinctive cross-disciplinary themes. The first three architectural talks deal with the topic of public, of ecology and resources, and of design for communities.
TALK 1_ Public and Public
Topic: In a present increasingly determined by short-term cultural and technical visions, design disciplines acting on communitarian assets need to reconsider their mobilizing goals, operative instruments, and development possibilities. What is emerging from the work of a plethora of small firms, collectives of professionals, and ateliers is a growing interest in reconceptualizing the notion of the public as a domain shifting from missed occasions to reinventing opportunities, from adherence to political initiatives to their reorientation. The seminar focuses on architectural practice, from conception to execution, in relation to the multifaceted notions “public,” ranging from its physical spatial connotation to its institutional ethos, with the aim of exploring its inherent potential towards new governance models.
