The “Design4Communities” Talk is part of the Architecture Crossroads series, which explores architectural regeneration practices in mountain contexts. The Architecture Crossroads seminars focus on architectural transformation in marginalized areas, with particular emphasis on processes that engage local communities and address underuse and fragility through a research-driven approach.
This specific talk explores the relationship between architecture and community, understood as a means to foster a sense of belonging and construct collective identities. The seminar examines how architectural design can address critical issues such as reuse, abandonment, and landscape care, translating them into interventions capable of triggering meaningful processes. Particular attention is given to mountain territories, where architecture can serve as a vehicle for social cohesion and resilience, contributing to the reinforcement of bonds, places, and shared memories.
The talk features contributions from Pedevilla Architekten and MIMEUS, two practices working with local materials, local craftsmen, and the distinct cultural character of the Alpine communities in South Tyrol and Primiero (TN).
