The seminar series “Dialogue on Fragility Matters: Architecture and Urban Growth in Indian Cities” will explore themes such as the challenges posed by megacity expansion in the architectural and urban fields, cultural exchange impacts on urban planning, the delicate interplay between architecture and heritage conservation, the pressing contemporary environmental challenges and the evolution of housing typologies.
The fourth appointment explores the evolution of apartment housing in India through the lens of typology and fragility. Spanning a century, it examines how urban edges, housing blocks, and domestic units have been shaped – and strained – by regulation, production, and use in the context of rapid urban transformation and shifting social imaginaries.
