PhD Course “Turning Research into a Book”
Dutch architect Dick van Gameren has been engaged in housing design for the past twenty-five years through his practice and in his research and teaching at Delft University of Technology. In Dutch Dwellings, he presents around forty of his own projects, grouped into thematic chapters to illustrate the main underlying principles of residential design.
Together, they constitute a multifaceted catalogue of housing typologies, with a particular focus, on projects for affordable housing. In his supplementary essays, Van Gameren explores evolutions in residential architecture in the Netherlands. He positions his own concepts in the context of these developments and expands on what he considers the key elements of good housing design. Prof.ir. Dick van Gameren, dean of the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment in TUDelft, ran his own architecture firm and in 2013 became a partner with Mecanoo Architecten in Delft. Over the years he has realised numerous projects, ranging from exhibition designs to urban-development master plans. Examples of his designs include residential buildings in IJburg and the Eastern Docklands area of Amsterdam and in the Westelijke Tuinsteden neighbourhood of the city.Relatore
