A workshop in four meetings for understanding some peculiar recent experiences
“Four Architectural Magazines” is a workshop in four meetings for understanding some peculiar recent experiences: “Stoà,” “San Rocco,” “Vesper,” and “Khōrein” treat architecture in different ways. Still, all start from the common belief that reading, writing, and publishing remain fundamental acts necessary for the life of any architectural knowledge and culture.
The “Architectural Review” is a monthly international architectural magazine published in London since 1896. In 1928, the two leading Italian architectural magazines, “Casabella” and “Domus” were born in Milan. In Paris, Le Corbusier published “L’Esprit Nouveau” from 1920 to 1925, and “L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui” started in 1930.
It has been many years, in some cases more than a century, that architectural magazines have been the more inspirational platforms for architects’ professional culture and the exchange between theory, research, and practice. Another essential role of the magazines was the capacity, at any time, to cross national borders and to transfer local and national paths to an international audience.
