The lecture explores the relationship between design and research in architecture through spatial composition. It presents the redevelopment of the outdoor sports facilities at the German School of Athens, part of a broader study on renovating its outdoor spaces. Key concepts—”boundary,” “color,” “ground,” and “body”—will frame the analysis, revealing their role in shaping composition and spatial interpretation. The “boundary” is examined not as a line but as a transition between the school, the city, and nature. Color enriches the organizing system, structured by a grid and a freehand continuous line. Rather than serving professional athletics, the project prioritizes socialization and inclusion through physical activity and play. This approach aligns with educational perspectives where outdoor spaces influence spatial perception and learning. The lecture also highlights the conceptual role of the “ground,” referencing open-air schools and the interplay between “ground” and “body” in shaping spatial experience.
