A Lectio Magistralis by Cecil Konijnendijk
Around the world, city governments and other stakeholders are engaged in urban greening efforts, including urban afforestation. Often the focus is on climate adaptation, promoting public health, and biodiversity conservation.
With the aim to discuss the importance of urban forests for the cities of today and tomorrow, the Lectio Magistralis by prof. Cecil Konijnendijk will present examples from across the world of governance, planning, and guidelines that can help in building strong, cross-sectoral urban forestry programs. Finally, this lecture will also represent an opportunity to discover prof. Konijnendijk’s new book “Rethinking urban green spaces”. Cecil Konijnendijk is widely considered as one of the world’s leading urban forestry experts, with 25 years of experience studying, teaching, and advising on aspects of urban forestry and nature-based solutions. Today, prof. Konijnendijk co-leads the Nature Based Solutions Institute, a think tank for the evidence- based greening of cities. At the same time, he is an honorary professor at the University of British Columbia and a visiting scholar at Wageningen University.Relatore: Cecil Konijnendijk
