Heritage and Criticism
5/07/2024, h. 10:30 – 13:00
Politecnico di Milano, Campus Leonardo, Edificio 12, Sala Riunioni
The event aims to convene a group of international scholars to discuss the interplay between heritage practices and the formation of a critical discourse surrounding them.
This is grounded on the idea that any heritage preservation process is rooted in establishing a system of values –cultural, social, political, and so forth. From this standpoint, criticism –both as a specialised discourse and a conduit between academic and public debates– is pivotal in shaping and cementing consensus in favour of heritage practices linked to architecture and urban spaces. The novelty of the proposal lies in delineating a fresh research field at the intersection of heritage and criticism, shedding light on areas that have received scant attention both in the general debate and within academic research, particularly within historical contexts.
The event is envisioned as a two-day seminar, the first on Wednesday 3rd, during which international experts will dissect the theme and its ramifications, drawing from their own research experiences and well-documented specific case studies.
Organized and supported by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (DASTU) with the additional support of the Université Rennes 2, the University of New South Wales Sydney, Tongji University, and the Erasmus+ program.
