DAStU, Piazza Leonardo da Vinci 26, Edificio Carta, SALA SEMINARI
The ageing of society is considered as one of the most important challenges which contemporary society has to deal with. It represents one of the most important positive results of technological, policy and life-style changes occurred in the last decades. None would be against that, though ageing poses big challenges and problems. This Open Lecture Series is aimed to explore the different challenges posed to contemporary society by the ageing society, and the role played by technological, architectural and urban innovation in providing solutions. Both a specialist and a user-perspective will be adopted to evaluate the innovation potential of technical and design solutions. A multidisciplinary, integrated approach will be developed through the participation of architects, designers, engineers and urban planners as lecturers.
We will address the following issues:
– What are the the main socio-economic drivers of the ageing society and the main challenges posed by ageing?
– What are the main innovation taking place in this context, in an interdisciplinary perspective – from ICT innovation to social and urban innovation?
– To what extent are these different developments able to impact on the problems of the ageing society? What is potential of innovation of such experiences and perspectives?
– What are the societal and ethical problems rising from the increased role played by technology in the ageing society, considering the main dilemmas connected to the end-of-life?
New technologies represent an opportunity during the ageing process. Preserving autonomy is a key factor both because it helps to slow down the processes of cognitive decay and because it minimizes economic and social impacts.
The purpose of this lecture is to describe how technologies could become a support tool for people, families and society.
