Slowness as an Opportunity for Experiencing Landscape
How do speed and mode of movement influence our visual perception of space? Slow mobility, both in urban and non-urban contexts, is continuously gaining momentum – yet only a few cases consider the role of environmental psychology in planning for slow infrastructures. The seminar will focus on how slowness is performed for leisure purposes: we will present the results of an online survey, which simulates different speeds of movement and investigates the salient environmental features in the participants’ visual perception of space. Finally, we will discuss the potential of slowness as a tool towards an enhanced overall experience and active engagement with landscape. This seminar is organised within the PhD programme in Urban Planning, Policy and Design at the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, Politecnico di Milano. It is based on the ongoing PhD research carried out by PhD candidate Dafni Riga, with the supervision of prof. Paolo Pileri.
