The forms of water in landscape architecture. From the Petrarca’s “clear, fresh and sweet water”, to the water cities.
The discussion on waters often forces us to have a dual attitude, both on a conceptual and technical level. This is evident in dealing with extreme and opposing climate phenomena. At the same time, water has always been the expression of primary desires for the humans: desires for beauty, comfort, hygiene, leisure, as well as an essential step in many religions. Waters are therefore both loved and desired and feared. It is poor or excessive, it is good or dangerous, it is beautiful or horrid. Finally, even if the waters have no shape, they force us every time to look for an adequate one, choosing how to place ourselves in this dialectic.
