PROFILO

Paolo Scrivano is associate professor of history of architecture. He holds a PhD degree in architectural and planning history from the Politecnico di Torino and has arrived at the Politecnico di Milano after having held teaching positions at the University of Toronto (2002-2007), at Boston University (2007-2015), and at Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University (2016-2019). He has been a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, visiting professor at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, as well as the recipient of several grants and fellowships from institutions such as the Center for Advanced Studies in the Visual Arts at Washington, D.C.’s National Gallery of Art, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the Australian Research Council, and the French National Research Agency. A specialist of 20th-century architecture, he has authored numerous publications on history, historiography, and criticism, including the volumes Storia di un’idea di architettura moderna. Henry-Russell Hitchcock e l’International Style (2001), Olivetti Builds: Modern Architecture in Ivrea (2001, as a co-author), and Building Transatlantic Italy: Architectural Dialogues with Postwar America (2013). He is currently one of the scientific coordinators of the research network “Mapping Architectural Criticism”, based at the Université Rennes 2; he is also affiliated faculty at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen’s Faculty of Arts and honorary professor at University of Liverpool’s School of Architecture (2016-2022).
