The city reconsidered: integrating urban planning and ecology
4/11/2020, h. 14:15 – 17:00
Webex Meetings
The symposium aims to discuss how planning and ecology can be further integrated in the transformation of our cities. It explores the roles of the green wedge planning model in balancing urbanisation and nature, both as instruments for the transformation of existing structures and in new plans. Cities are in continuous transformation. Today, planning for climate-change related events and social transitions is a pressing action. Given the need for cities to both accommodate anthropic needs and non-human life, while reducing our impact on the planet; an integrative and systemic approach to planning and delivering new, greener urban environments is required. As such, major environmental and economic challenges require revised models for the built environment that are adaptable and responsive to change.
