The School of the Souths of the World at Politecnico di Milano
Nell’ambito delle attività Dipartimento di Eccellenza sulle fragilità territoriali
The failures of globalization with respect to environmental issues, climate change, global chains interconnection as well as territorial and social justice are now clear to most of the world observers. However, no serious attempt has been made yet to analyze the reasons for such failures and to rewrite the rules of the world based on fairer relations. In this attempt, the North’s and the South’s points of view have to be jointly considered. The School of the Souths 2023 – held at Politecnico di Milano for the first time – aims to bridge the academic networks activated during the past editions of the School by Prof. Paolo Perulli, and the members of Politecnico di Milano’s community interested in these topics. This first meeting aims to focus on the failures of globalization (environmental issues, climate change, global chain interconnection, territorial/social justice) and on the hints of a possible “de-globalization” movement. The Seminar proposes to discuss these themes from a multipolar perspective, including views from the “Souths” and the “Norths” on economic (global value chains), urban (planetary urbanization), and ideological (technological understanding of the reality) issues.
For thematic affinities, the organizers also recommend the book presentation “Embodying Peripheries” taking place on the same afternoon (17:30-19:30, Off Campus S. Siro) and organized by DAStU, Mapping San Siro with Global Urban Humanities Initiatives/UC Berkeley (Future Histories Lab)
