The seminar, titled “Winter Olympic Games: Territorial Challenges, Environmental Impacts, and Unsustainable Future,” will explore the evolving environmental and territorial challenges posed by the Winter Olympic Games. Abdallah Jreij will present his research, which focuses on contextualizing the environmental impacts of these mega-events, in particular Winter Olympic Games, analyzing how they intersect with local territories and the broader sustainability agendas by the International Olympic Commitee. In addition, visiting PhD candidate Xiaoxuan Du will offer insights from her research on “Beijing’s Mega-Event Decade (2008-2022),Shaping Urban and Architectural Heritage” highlighting the implications of Beijing’s major sporting events over the past decade and their lasting environmental and urban impacts.
