Ciclo di seminari “The 15 Minutes City? Roots, Practices, and Critical Perspective”
Legitimised by rising environmental concerns, sustained by the rediscovery of the local scale and amplified by the constrained limitation of social life in the context of the pandemic, the discourse on the “15 minutes city” has imposed itself to both the public opinion and policy-makers attention as a sort of natural discourse on a desirable, human-scale city.
However, if such a discourse is highly appealing, its broader implications and the terms of its translation into policy are far from being trivial and have to be closely scrutinised. Factors such as the variety of social, economic and morphological conditions across urban regions and the complex relations between the policy realms and scales involved are all relevant issues in this regard. Furthermore, the “15minutes city” discourse is also to be put in a historical perspective as it has risen after many decades of reflections on and interventions for the construction of the “local” in urban planning, policy and design. Moving from this background, by combining contributions from scholars and policy-makers, the seminar series intends to critically address this rising discourse by observing practices and policies, looking at historical roots and examining the critical nexus between broader societal processes and the local scale.Relatori: Arturo Lanzani e Gaia Caramellino – Politecnico di Milano
