Extending the Cinematographic Space
Phygital Design Perspectives

PRIN22s – FUTURSPACE (open) Seminar Series
The evolution of technology, the emergence of new cultural media, and the societal changes of recent years have significantly transformed the way we experience and consume cultural products, particularly cinematographic and audiovisual content.
As a result, there has been a steady decline in the use of traditional cinema spaces, with several people opting to watch movies through streaming services and social media in their everyday environments. Conversely, the rise of postmedia cultures has influenced the aesthetics of audiovisual language, altering our cinematic experiences and expectations. In light of this, a phygital design approach appears to be the most effective way to envision the future of cinematographic spaces.
During this seminar, we will explore various ways to expand cinematographic spaces, discussing how to create new relationships between space, storytelling, technology, and the audience. We will propose using knowledge tools, metaphors and designing scenarios as valuable practices that help anticipate and open up new possibilities for the future of cinema spaces.
