Open Forum

Through presentations and discussions, we will analyse Architectures of Care as shared infrastructures that promote interdependence and social capacity. These architectural hybrids have the capacity to address various forms of fragility. The aim is to illustrate through the lens of care (caring about, caring for, and agents of care) the physical and spatial features that foster individual and collective agency.

This CRAFT Open Forum investigates how architectural design and spatial practices can support antifragility, foster forms of care, and question specific forms of exclusion embedded in the built environment. The research aligns with several SDGs – 5 Gender Equality, 10 Reduced Inequalities, and 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities – positioning architecture as an active agent of social transformation.

The aim is to examine the emergence of new types and typological hybridisations, presenting projects and theoretical positions capable of reconfiguring open spaces and buildings that activate forms of spatial agency and care. In particular, to elucidate the physical and spatial characters that enable the transformation of habits and lifestyles, the consolidation of a sense of community, and the promotion of social inclusion.
