
Call for Visiting Professor in “Contemporary Landscape Theory and Practice”

The Visiting professorship program aims at strengthening the internationalization of the School of Architecture, Urbanism and Construction Engineering and of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies, by welcoming a foreign scholar for a semester term. The visiting professor will be in charge of lecturing one full course at the School AUIC for the period of her/his visiting position, joining seminars and academic venues. The visiting professor will be in charge of lecturing the integrated course: “Contemporary Landscape Theory and Practice”.
The Course
Contemporary Landscape Theory and Practice is a course offered at the second semester to the students enrolled in the second year of the Master of Science in Landscape Architecture – Land Landscape Heritage.
The course will be taught in English, it equals 8 ECTS credits (4 Contemporary issues in Landscape Design and 4 in Urbanism) and consists in 6 hours of teaching per week, organized in lessons, workshops, conferences, for a total of about 80 hours.
It is scheduled in the spring semester (mid February 2024 – mid June 2024) and is offered as elective course for Landscape Design, Architecture and Planning students. Two dates for final examinations of attending students shall be fixed in June-July 2024 and September.
The course will focus on the critical observation of innovative design actions in Landscape Architecture. The candidate is asked to develop a teaching program devoted specifically to the relationship between changing metropolises and Landscape. Programs with a strong innovative and experimental character will be appreciated, given the international student body that characterizes the LA-LLH Master Course.
The course is rewarded with a sum of 14,000.00 € (8 credits). Depending on the type of contract that you will choose and your tax profile (e.g. existing convention to avoid double taxation between Italy and your country of residence), taxation on the fee may vary, typically between 22% and 46%.

The Master Degree Program in Landscape Architecture – Land Landscape Heritage (https://www.landscape.polimi.it) aims to train multidisciplinary and polytechnic landscape architects, able to understand the challenges of contemporary landscapes and territorial changes and to have connection and integration with different disciplines – architecture, urban planning, agronomy and forestry, hydraulic engineering and infrastructure, ecology, social science, history, law, economics and land management.
The Master is one of the courses of the School of Architecture, Urban Planning and Construction Engineering (AUIC) with the contribution of other schools and universities in Milan.
Teaching approach consists in core design studio and thematic courses. Practical experience in design studios is the core of every semester of the Master’s. The landscape project allows the students to understand landscape phenomena in their continuous evolution, and find the techniques and skills needed from time to time. The course should help students develop critical analysis, mentality research, imagination and technical-practical tools. The proportion of international students is relevant and produces a stimulating environment both for teaching and learning.
The courses are held at the central City Campus Leonardo in Milan.
The course is currently directed by Prof. Antonio Longo with Prof. Matteo Poli as vice director. Qualified research staff and PhD students with significant international and professional experiences are involved in the tutorship and teaching activity.
The Department of Architecture and Urban Studies (www.dastu.polimi.it), Directed by Prof. Massimo Bricocoli, is now the second largest Department of Politecnico di Milano and the largest in the field of Architecture; furthermore it is also an important research centers in Italy for urban and spatial planning issues, enjoying in a well-established international network of centers of excellence.

The visiting professorship program is open to highly qualified foreign scholars in the discipline of Landscape Architecture and related fields. Applicants must be affiliated to an academic or research institution.
