Resulting from a collaboration between POLIMI and the METREX Metropolitan Climate Challenge Expert Group, this event aims to discuss the emerging role of metropolitan cities in the governance of climate adaptation. Metropolitan and regional institutions are increasingly called upon to take on an active role to ensure that their territories are resilient and ready to deal with the impacts of climate change, which are already being felt in many regions across Europe.
Several metropolitan and regional institutions have already started to do so, taking on leadership roles within their regions and especially supporting municipalities in their adaptation efforts. The event will showcase some of these examples, while also focusing on the practical issues and challenges of dealing with climate adaptation at the metropolitan scale (e.g., acquiring funding, how to engage municipalities, how to transition from knowledge to implementation).
The ultimate aim is to generate discussions among metropolitan practitioners interested in pursuing climate adaptation, involving both those who have not yet initiated work on the topic and those who are further along in the process, in order to facilitate peer-to-peer exchange.
