He Wei, Founding Principal at 3andwich Design/He Wei Studio illustrates his insights on architectural design in rural China emphasizing the social responsibility of architecture, and proposed a rural architectural design method based on holistic design, regional and local translation, public participation and artistic intervention, as well as contemporary communication means, which has been verified in practical cases.
Among He Wei’s books, Thinking and Making of Architecture in Rural China was published in 2021. He Wei’s works have participated in many international famous exhibitions such as Venice Architecture Biennale (2016, 2018, 2020, 2023). His practice has been published worldwide such as Architectural Record (US), Architectural Review (UK), ARQ (UK), db Deutscher Bauzeitung (GER), Wallpaper (UK), Architecture and Culture (KR), dezeen, domus, etc. He Wei and his architectural works have been honored to receive awards such as First Prize of Excellent Rural Architecture of Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China (2015), Silver Award of Architectural Creation Award of the Architectural Society of China (2016), Highly Commended of Blueprint Award (GB, 2018), Young Architect Award of Architectural Society of China (2017-18), Architectural Design Award – Second Prize of Rural Architecture, Architectural Society of China (2017-18), AIA International 2022 Design Awards (US), ARCASIA Awards for Architecture 2022, etc.
