Comparative and Multi-situated Perspectives on Middle-Class Housing
The annual meeting of the COST Action “European Middle Class Mass Housing” is held in Milan from October 20 to 23 and is co-organized by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies.
The meeting is opening at Fondazione Giangiacomo Feltrinelli on October 20, h.17.45, with the keynote lecture by Konstantina Kalfa (NTUA Athens) titled “Unsettling Settling”.
The meeting includes the symposium “Southern Europe and Beyond. Comparative and Multi-Situated Perspectives on Middle-class Housing” held on October 21 in Aula Magna, Politecnico di Milano, piazza Leonardo da Vinci 32. It aims at promoting an in-depth reflection about common features and specificities in the history of European middle-class mass housing. Italy and Southern Europe are taken as starting points to carry out a broader discussion encompassing all the geographical areas covered by the project, re-articulating intra-European comparisons for a better understanding of the multi-faceted factors that have contributed to shaping the built heritage of middle-class mass housing.
The symposium will conclude with the keynote lecture by Hartmut Frank (HCU Hamburg) titled “Peter Behrens’ Terrace Houses for the new Metropolitan Middle Class”.
The symposium is organized by G. Caramellino, N. De Togni, F. Zanfi (DAStU), L. Daglio (DABC) and F. De Pieri (Politecnico di Torino).
